Hotels-live.com - TOP 30 @AUSTRALIA’S BEST MEMORIES ▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂ #2 - Hitchhiking around Tasmania …………………………………………………… I arrived in Tassie on Christmas Day with Greg, a Belgian friend met in Melbourne. We decided to explore Australia’s smallest state by hitchhiking during 3 weeks. 3 weeks of pure joy ! We met so many fantastic people who picked us up, who offered us food and accommodation, who invited us to join them to their party, … We were so lucky with the weather, only 2 days of rain ! That was my very first Australian experience of free camping and true backpacking (I mean carrying a 20kg backpack all day, live with it, walk with it, sleep with it). We attended to Falls Festival in Marion Bay where we were for New Year’s Eve. Crystal Fighters, one of my favorite band, were absolutely incredible on stage that day! We also visited the whole wonderful east coast, from Bay of Fires to Marion Bay, with of course a stop at Freycinet National Park and its famous Wineglass Bay and Hazards Beach, but also on Maria Island, probably the best moment I had in Tassie ! This small island only inhabited by rangers is THE place to be to spot Tasmanian devils, wombats, wallabies, echidnas and even penguins ! We spent 3 days there, hiking and relaxing :) I really enjoyed Hobart too ! We arrived in the capital during the food festival Taste of Tasmania. You can’t imagine how good the food and the beers were there ! I don’t know if it’s because of the hitchhiking experience or because of the breathtaking and very wild sceneries, but when people asked me what part of Australia I preferred, I usually say Tasmania ! I will have to go back there one day, definitely !
