Hotels-live.com - A bison looks out from a roof hatch if a transport trailer as it arrives north of the town of Poplar on the Fort Peck Reservation, home of the Assiniboine and Sioux tribes in northeast Montana. This week 138 Yellowstone bison were transferred to Fort Peck where the largest conservation herd of Yellowstone bison in Montana, outside of the national park itself, will now be managed. Once numbering in the tens of millions on the Great Plains, wild bison were nearly annihilated in the 19th century but saved from extinction in our nation's first major conservation effort.
