Hotels-live.com - People gather around to watch as bison are unloaded from a truck and set free into a snowy pasture north of the town of Poplar on the Fort Peck Reservation, home of the Assiniboine and Sioux tribes in northeast Montana. This week 139 Yellowstone bison are scheduled to be transferred to Fort Peck where the largest conservation herd of Yellowstone bison in Montana, outside of the national park itself, will now be managed. Once numbering in the tens of millions on the Great Plains, wild bison were nearly annihilated in the late 19th century but saved from extinction in our nation's first major conservation effort. iPhone photo by David Guttenfelder @dguttenfelder on assignment for National Geographic @Hotelslive by natgeo instagram.com/p/vXAkbTIVe6/ Follow #Instagram @Hotelspaschers instagram.com/hotelspaschers and @Voyageslive #Twitter #TeamFollowBack #Natgeo #Voyage #Travel #TFB #FollowTrick www.facebook.com/125048940862168/photos/a.801751693191886... via Hotels-live.com www.facebook.com/pages/p/125048940862168 #Retweet #TeamFollowBack #F4F #TityFollowTrain via http://flic.kr/p/q3TZEf
