Hotels-live.com - Every week in New York City, a group of respected hip-hop producers and artists make their way to the East Village to dance and listen to an eclectic, vinyl-only mix of funk, soul, rap, rock and reggae. “Twenty years from now, people are gonna be talking about Mobile Mondays,” says Gimel Keaton, better known as Young Guru (@youngguru763), one of the most acclaimed audio engineers in hip-hop. Guru has been photographing the event each week, and explains, “I just started documenting all the people who spin, to catch the energy of that particular place. But it’s also a challenge because it’s completely dark in there.” For the almost lightless environment, Guru opts for black-and-white portraits, like the one above, of the rapper Freeway. He is trying to carve out as much time as possible to make pictures, even though his primary focus is still music, having spent the better part of the last two decades producing and mixing albums for a who’s who of legendary emcees, most famously, Jay Z. But, as a photographer, he’s serious about developing a voice, studying the legends, learning about their technique, their style, their philosophy. “This is not a plaything for me,” he says. “I am serious when I say I am never going to take a photo of my feet hanging over the side of the building. I see that every day.” Photo by @youngguru763 @Hotelslive by instagram instagram.com/p/y2g46QBQW4/ Follow instagram @Hotelspaschers instagram.com/hotelspaschers and @Voyageslive #Twitter #TeamFollowBack #Instagram #Voyage #Travel #TFB #FollowTrick www.facebook.com/125048940862168/photos/a.801853623181693... via Hotels-live.com www.facebook.com/pages/p/125048940862168 #Retweet #TeamFollowBack #F4F #TityFollowTrain via http://flic.kr/p/qPtEtn
