Hotels-live.com - A spectacular festival of lights takes place during the full moon in the Magha month of the Hindu calendar (currently January to February). Known as "The Float Festival", or Theppotsavam, it begins with a daytime parade in which ornamented icons of deities are carried from the Meenakshi Temple to Lake Teppakolam. Here the deities are placed on large floats that glow with wonderful colors. When the sun sets they are drawn across the water by men pulling long ropes. Fireworks illuminate the night sky while people everywhere rejoice.
