Hotels-live.com - Reflecting on the stunning beauty of Binalong Bay and the Bay of Fires with @taswegianwanderer on Tassie’s north-east coast. Many believe this area’s name comes from the distinctive orange lichen that is found on the granite boulders that line the shore. In fact, the bay was given its name in 1773 by Captain Tobias Furneaux, an English navigator and captain of the ship Adventure, who saw the fires of Aboriginal people on the area’s beaches during his early explorations of the then Van Diemen’s Land (now Tasmania).
