Photo by @jonathankingston (9 of 12) As we made our way to the northern end of Graham Island and the town of Old Massett, we were welcomed at the longhouse of local artist and cultural leader Christian White. This stunning totem pole was carved by Christian and is indicative of the cultural revival taking place all across the archipelago. Each pole he carves takes months to create, and when raised, must be buried nine feet in the ground, in a bed of stones as dictated by ancient tradition.
