'Laughter and friendship are universally understood. Mela (pictured on the right) was our host during our visit to her Maasai village near Arusha as part of the G Adventures (@gadventures) for Good clean cookstoves project. After showing us her hut and how the clean cookstove worked without smoke leaking inside (which was a huge contrast with her neighbor’s hut where we could barely breathe inside), Mela then helped install of a new stove in a nearby village. In this project, the women are responsible for the design, training and installation of these clean cookstoves, thereby providing them with additional sources of income. Towards the end of this, Mela told us that a village in the area was having a party to honor the boys who had just gone through the first step towards becoming warriors (circumcision). She was getting dressed up to go, and would we want to go with her? Honored, we quickly accepted. After a drive on dirt roads to what felt like the middle of nowhere, we finally arrived at the village to shouts and cries from people dancing, the rhythm of the music like a heartbeat. Mela grabbed my hand, and took me off to the women’s area where friends and family from all different villages gathered together to share news and stories. Although I couldn’t understand a word anyone was saying, it didn’t matter. The laughter and feeling of friendship was easily understood.' | Audrey Scott, @uncornered_market #lpInstaTakeover Hotels-live.com via www.instagram.com/p/BC4-aNTKTT8/ via http://flic.kr/p/EgUEPj #link https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1556/25121581024_bc83a691cf_b.jpg
