Yesterday, Ashima Shiraishi (@ashimashiraishi), a 14-year-old climbing prodigy from New York City, made history and became the first female climber to ascend a boulder problem rated V15, the upper limit of difficulty, with her ascent of “Horizon," pictured here. This is likely the hardest bit of climbing ever completed by a woman, and it represents how the sport of climbing is changing and progressing. “If we keep repeating the hardest climbs that men have already done,” says Ashima, "then I think eventually women will start to lead the sport of climbing.” Congrats to Ashima! Please read our rich online report by @andrewbishart, and get psyched to see Ashima climb this boulder in #REELROCK11, this fall.
