Photo by @shonephoto (Robbie Shone) - This 30-meter-deep shaft was by far the most impressive vertical drop our team found on the 10-day expedition,” says photographer Robbie Shone of this picture he took of glaciologist Sam Doyle rappelling into the None Stop moulin in the Gorner Glacier, located in the Swiss Alps. “We were there to explore the moulins and glacier caves for adventure and science.” Shone says that on the day the photo was taken the weather was beautiful and sunny, which is great on most days, but he notes that when exploring glaciers, “time is always against you ... especially when it’s warm on the surface. There was a lot of potential meltwater on the glacier and a risk of large amounts of water cascading down and into the moulin where we were exploring. The drip water falling down on us made protecting the camera really difficult. #ExtremePhotoOfTheWeek Hotels-live.com via www.instagram.com/p/BEF3eGFCoIG/ via http://flic.kr/p/FhhtjH #link https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1531/25782191593_80d0655868_b.jpg
